The Treatment Process
An inlay is a procedure where the replacement material is installed inside the tooth, fitting perfectly into your damaged area. An onlay lies over the top of the tooth, protecting any exposed areas and recreating any missing part of the tooth’s cap. When you visit Infinite Point Cook Dental with your initial problem, your dentist will determine which procedure will work for you, or if both are necessary.
It will just take two appointments for this procedure. One to prepare the site and create a mould and the second to apply the inlay or onlay.
- Initial appointment : The dentist will start off by using a local anaesthetic to numb the procedure area to ensure you are comfortable when the surface is being prepared. Once the area is cleaned, an impression of your tooth is made with a mould. A temporary inlay/only is then applied until your next visit.
- Final appointment : The area is once again used with a small dose of local anaesthetic, and the temporary inlay/onlay is removed and replaced with the permanent version. If you’re happy with the look and feel, the fixture is then set with cement.
